I Totally Loved Doing Taxes
By Kathy Hadley of Kathy Hadley - Life Coach
This week is tax week. So even though this is currently VERY far outside what I do on a daily basis, it reminded me of the hours I spent in the past totally happy to be filing taxes. My older siblings thought I was nuts. I have always loved working with numbers and also figuring out things logically. That is a couple of the reasons I majored in Accounting in college. To me, doing taxes was a great big puzzle inside a game that had rules and if you figured the rules out well, you got a better score. As for what I paid in taxes, I grew up in a very patriotic family. Many of my relatives were in the Armed Forces, including my Father and later he was a member of The American Legion. Other than the Catholic Church, the first organization I was ever a member (and an elected official in) was the American Legion Junior Auxiliary, Post # 64. (And yes, I still remember that!) I was a whopping 6 years old. So from that background of being very proud to be an American, I always felt happy to be paying what my family always stated as was "our fair share" for being part of this great nation. So to re-cap...when it comes to taxes...I love filing them and feel it is my small part to keep this great nation of our going. |

Kathy, Yes, I can believe that YOU would love to do taxes. David
I can believe that Kathy loved doing taxes, too! She always has the mind of hers going and can figure things with numbers very quickly. David
Little Miss Rule Follower! I can see you loving doing taxes. The way your mind works....I can see you figuring it all out and being happy about it. The part you wrote about patriotism, I like that you mentioned that. I think we need more patriotism expressed. Have a Happy Thanksgiving! Dina
I don't love doing them, in fact I dislike it so much I pay someone else to do it. But, on the other hand, I don't mind paying my share, as you said. I accept my responsibility for maintaining a nice place to live.
I wish taxes were a bit more equitable. I have read about what is called "The Fair Tax". It is based on consumption rather than income and requires no filing. The merchants collect it with the usual sales taxes and pass it on to the federal government. This way, people who earn income "under the table" and the so called gray market get taxed too.
Not too many people love to do taxes. Not me anyway, although I majored in accounting also and enjoy accounting work. Tax time is fast approaching .. have a great time! (I say this with tongue in cheek.) :)
